An introduction to the Fediverse
Here's my introduction to the fediverse. While I think others online are helpful to an extent, they only really talk about Mastodon, which I don't care for much. I'll go into other fediverse software that you don't hear about as much.
Are you tired of Twitter's bullshit but think the fediverse is too complicated? Have you tried mastodon.social, but didn't have a great experience? Well this guide is for you! In this guide, I'll tell you about the different micro-blogging or "twitter-like" fediverse software, and help you pick what's best for you. Not only that, but I will reccomend some instances as well as ways to find instances on your own.
Here's a quick overview of the fedi software I reccomend.
1. Pleroma/Akkoma. These are similar to Mastodon, in that they are micro-blogging software, but have more appealing features and customizability, in my opinion. There are also plenty of instances to pick from. The UI is not as pretty as the ****keys, but instead is more lightweight in my experience. Instances with open registrations that I would check out are outerheaven, coral castle, and luna nova, as seen on akkoma.social
2: Misskey, Foundkey, and Calckey. Misskey and it's forks are feature rich platforms that are growing incredibly quick. Akkoma actually has a lot of features that were inspired by the way that they're implemented in Misskey. It has great reactions, a media drive to share various types of files, and a user-friendly while easy to customize UI. Calckey adds many improvements and optimizations, as well as a better intro tutorial for new users. To be honest, I'd reccomend this to most people coming from Twitter over Mastodon any day. Instaces I would reccomend are absturztau.be and den.raccoon.quest
3: To be added!
To find instances for these as well as other fediverse platforms, I reccomend looing around Fediverse Observer
